Black Liquid

The black liquid is a dark, tar-like oily substance. It is a mixture of several thousand chemicals that interact with each other depending on the environment. Although the liquid logically exists on Earth, it was never found or studied during the Earth age.

It began to receive more attention only during the cosmic era, when it was discovered that small amounts circulate in the bodies of creatures of Evil, and that contact with humans causes biological changes with symptoms similar to Disease X.

Its occurrence is documented even before the era of our civilization. Archaeological findings suggest that it was used by civilizations preceding ours.

The black liquid exhibits exceptionally high permeability, meaning it has an almost unlimited ability to penetrate materials. No known material can permanently contain it, making its storage extremely dangerous. The only safe method of storage is placing containers in extremely strong magnetic fields, which can at least partially control its penetration ability.

Another material that is effective for temporary protection against the black liquid is "skin", if it can be called that, from the destroyed entities of Evil. These units have the ability to contain the black liquid inside their bodies. Astronauts venturing to collect black liquid from the bodies of slain monsters therefore cover their spacesuits with this tissue.

Rarity

The black liquid is considered the rarest substance in the world. Its quantity is always insufficient, and acquiring it is very difficult. Due to its wide range of uses, it is extremely sought after.

Uses

Aside from the fact that the black liquid can be effectively used as a biological weapon, it is most useful in the assembly of artifacts. To install an artifact on a ship, a womb of black liquid must be created, where the artifact will be placed. The liquid used for the womb is fused with a very strong electric charge, stabilizing it while also degrading its quality.

Prohibition and Black Market

Due to its danger, all hyper-corporations have adopted a resolution banning the storage and trade of black liquid. However, these measures have only stimulated illegal trade. Many corporations therefore build dedicated stations in remote parts of systems, beyond the reach of the law, where they store the liquid. This fact is cited as one of the factors that could potentially wipe out the rest of humanity.
