Leviathan

The Leviathan is a massive entity of Evil, regarded as the source and driving force of the Swarm in affected systems. It appears rarely, and its presence is usually long-term. The space in which a Leviathan settles gradually begins to change. Its behavior is slow, persistent, and focused on maintaining influence over the area. It does not attack continuously, but reacts to activity and disruptions of balance.

Size and Appearance

The Leviathan ranks among the largest known entities of Evil. Commonly observed individuals reach diameters of approximately 0.3 to 1 kilometer, while the largest recorded specimen exceeded 5 kilometers in diameter.

Its body has an organic, asymmetrical shape resembling a massive cluster of bony and chitinous structures. Long, curved protrusions and spines extend from the central mass, moving independently of one another. The surface appears rough and partially porous, as if composed of layers of old, scarred matter.

Tunnels

One of the primary manifestations of a Leviathan’s presence is the formation of tunnels. These structures do not appear directly near stations, but in their wider surroundings, often beyond the limits of commonly inhabited space.

Tunnel Raids

Raids originating from tunnels have a gradual character. Activity increases slowly, and attacks arrive with a delay. They often first manifest as increased swarm movement in the area and only later as direct threats to stations.

If the dispersal of protospheres from a tunnel is interrupted in time, the entire raid can be stopped.

Direct Leviathan Raids

In cases of immediate threat to the Leviathan, direct attacks occur without the formation of a tunnel. These attacks are fast, powerful, and clearly focused on a specific target.

A direct raid usually follows prolonged disruption of space near the Leviathan or a significant concentration of activity.

Leviathan’s Influence on the System

The presence of a Leviathan significantly affects swarm behavior and the overall stability of the system. Areas under its influence remain active longer, and the return to a calm state is slower.

A Leviathan may not pose a constant threat, but its existence means that humans are not the ones in full control of this space.
