Followers of Amanda
The Followers of Amanda are a movement within the Cult. They share an unusually strong attachment to Amanda's genetic descendants, which can develop into devotion and the deification of the entire bloodline. Their influence extends throughout the Cult and cannot be explained solely by its members' formal positions.
Amanda's bloodline
Descent from Amanda is central to the movement. Her descendants command trust and authority among the followers that need not reflect their rank or personal achievements. This devotion creates bonds across the established hierarchy and gives members of the bloodline considerable influence over the organization's direction. The origins of the movement itself remain unclear.
The connection to implants
This unusual attachment to the bloodline occurs only in people with a neural implant. This does not mean that everyone with an implant becomes a follower. The phenomenon is often associated with an anomaly in a historical professional template that induces exceptionally intense emotional bonds in some of its carriers.
It has not been established whether this resulted from deliberate interference with the template or an unforeseen side effect of its development. The existence of these bonds alone neither explains their mechanism nor proves that a particular implant manufacturer is responsible.
Their place within the Cult
The Followers of Amanda do not represent the entire Cult. They are an influential movement within an older organization whose character they have significantly shaped in recent generations. Some members of the Cult understand this attachment as a spiritual bond and confirmation of the exceptional significance of Amanda's descendants. They dispute the technological explanation. Outside observers, by contrast, point to the connection between these intense bonds and the presence of an implant.
The dispute over free will
Obroda cites the Followers of Amanda as a principal example of an implant's ability to affect its carrier's emotions and loyalties. In its interpretation, a person experiences as a personal conviction something actually produced by a professional template. Obroda uses the case to criticize implant manufacturers and question whether their users make decisions freely.
The association with implants does not by itself prove deliberate control of their carriers or the replacement of their original consciousness. The distinction between the observed attachment and its interpretation remains a point of dispute between the Cult, Obroda, and supporters of implantation.
